ROUND-TABLE ON SHARI'AH IN THE MULTI-DOOR COURTHOUSE IN NIGERIA

The Islamic Welfare Foundation will mark the 32nd anniversary of its establishment on 1st May, 2016 with a Roundtable on the theme "Sharia in the Multi-Door Courthouse in Nigeria". The objective is to seek means to further entrench the Shariah in Nigeria's legal/judicial system and also give more Muslims greater access to the Shariah. Recommendations from the Roundtable are expected to galvanize IWF and other Islamic organisations to work towards providing access to the Shariah for all Muslims in each State of the Federation within a time frame. The papers that will be presented at the Roundtable are:

1. The Concept of Multi-Door Courthouse in Islamic Jurisprudence by Dr Nurain Taiwo Hassan Dindi

2. Integrating Sharia in the Contemporary Multi-Door Courthouse System in Nigeria by Hon. Justice Owolabi

3. Implemetation of Sharia in Multi-Door Courthouse in Nigeria's South-East and South-South Geo-Political Zones by Dr. Muiz Banire SAN

Three discussants will be invited to comment on each topic. They will include judges, members of Houses of Assembly and other stakeholders. Majority and Minority leaders of each House of Assembly in the South West, South East and South-South geo-political zones will also be invited as guests/participants.

The event will hold at the Conference Hall, Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos by 10 a.m. prompt.

Members of the public interested in promoting Shariah in Nigeria are invited.

All IWF members are hosts/participants. It is yet another opportunity for us to project IWF as a think-thank for the Muslim Ummah in Nigeria.
