Journal of Islam in Nigeria (JOIN) is a bi-annual journal published by the Islamic Welfare Foundation (IWF). The aim of the journal is to research Islam and Muslims in Nigeria and provide an in-depth discussion on current developments and topical issues in all aspects of Shari’ah, including Muslim Family Law, Conflict Resolution, Contract, Banking, Human Rights, International Law and Terrorism, Islamic Economic Model, Islamic Political Issues and such others.

Guidelines for Contributors

  1. Journal of Islam in Nigeria (JOIN) is a bi-annual journal published the Islamic Welfare Foundation (IWF). The aim of the journal is to research Islam and Muslims in Nigeria and provide an in-depth discussion on current developments and topical issues in all aspects of Shari’ah, including Muslim Family Law, Conflict Resolution, Contract, Banking, Human Rights, International Law and Terrorism, Islamic Economic Model, Islamic Political Issues and such others.
  2. The journal is edited by seasoned scholars representing the Editorial Board and subjected to another level of editorial work by the Board of Editorial Consultants spread across the world comprising experts in Islamic Jurisprudence and leading jurists on various aspects of Shari’ah.
  3. All members of the IWF receive the journal as part of their membership. It is also available to individual subscribers and libraries.
  4. Articles should typically be around 3,500-5,000 words, although articles up to 10,000 words will be considered for publication. Articles should break new grounds on issues of Shariah, provide an in-depth discussion of current developments and timely issues or considering Islam in a particular area of interest to our readership.
  5. Except in special circumstances, the Editorial Board will not consider articles published or to be published elsewhere. Authors are asked to confirm that their typescript is not and will not be so published, or to explain the relevant circumstances.
  6. Copyright in the article will normally be assigned to the IWF.
  7. The title and author of the article should be clearly indicated together with the brief personal description (Max 50 words) that the author would wish to see appear.
  8. Contributors are asked to provide a brief head note of around 100 words describing the contents of their article by way of Abstract.
  9. All articles are refereed to ensure both accuracy and relevance. Authors may be asked to revise their articles before final acceptance.
  10. Contributors are asked to use the approved form of citation of materials which may be obtained from the Assistant Editor upon request or from the Journal’s web site.
  11. The journal encourages authors to refer to research materials published not only in English but also in other languages especially Arabic Language. In special circumstances articles written in a language other than English will be considered for translation and publication. Such articles when submitted to the Editorial Board must be accompanied by a synopsis in English.
  12. Footnotes should be numbered from 1-99 and should be as concise as possible. The Journal may also be referenced in APA format.
  13. The citation of the journal is in the following style (2014/1435AH) JOIN 1.
  14. All materials should be submitted as a word document via email.
  15. Contributors are recommended to retain a copy of their article.
  16. The author should supply his or her contact details for further correspondence.

Terms and Conditions for Submission of Articles

  1. Articles for inclusion in this journal should be sent to the Senior Content Editor on info@iwf.com.ng.
  2. The article must be the original work of the author, must not have been previously published, and must not currently be under consideration by another journal. If it contains material that is someone else’s copyright, the unrestricted permission of the copyright owner must be obtained and evidence of this submitted with the article and the material should be clearly identified and acknowledged within the text.
  3. Copyright shall be assigned to the IWF and the IWF will have the exclusive right to first publication, both to reproduce and/or distribute an article (including the abstract) itself throughout the world in printed, electronic or any medium, and in turn to authorise others (including Reproduction Right Organizations such as the Nigerian Copyright Commission) to do the same. Following first publication, such publishing rights shall be non-exclusive, except that publication in another journal will require permission from and acknowledgement of the IWF. Such permission may be obtained from the Director of Content at info@iwf.com.ng.
  4. The rights of the author will be respected, the name of the author will always be clearly associated with the article and except for necessary editorial changes, no substantial alteration to the article will be made without consulting the author.
