Abstract: The cases of corruption in Nigeria are attributed to a number of factors. Between those who attribute the cause to leadership and those who are of the opinion that the followers are as culpable as the leadership, there is a need to interrogate this dichotomy. The challenge of leadership and followership has engendered a dilemma that have remained unresolved in spite of a countless ideology. With the aid of secondary source of information, the study examines the attitude of Nigerian citizens to leadership and followership challenge. The paper found out that, aside from other factors which promote corruption, there is a gap between the injunctions of Islam and Muslims practices, particularly as it relates to leadership and followership challenge in the polity. The paper offered some prophetic suggestions on how the problem may be ameliorated.
